Ghana chief justice Gertrude torkornoo has been sacked after an investigation found her guilty of allegedly abuse of office
The charges include misuse of public funds and falsification of judicial records
In march 2025 three petitions seeking her removal were filled by concerned ghananian citizens identified as Daniel ofori, resulting in the chief justice suspension in April
Thereafter Ghana president John mahama established a five member commission to investigate her, the commission was led by was led by another supreme court judge Gabriel Pwamang, throughout the investigation torkornoo insisted she was innocent and all charges against her was dropped unclear, she even attempted to stop the case investigation through a court petition but her application was rejected by the supreme courts in may
On Monday September 1 the office of the Ghana president said it has received a report investigating torkornoo, the office recommended her sacking saying ground for her sacking has been established. This mark the first time a sitting chief justice has been sacked from office
62 years old torkornoo, assumed office as Ghana top judge in June 2023 becoming the third woman to occupy the position in Ghana history
