Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan has booked her place in the semifinals of the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

The defending champion, who claimed gold in Oregon 2022 and placed sixth in Budapest 2023, delivered a dominant performance in heat six, clocking 12.53 seconds to qualify comfortably on Sunday, September 14.

Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton, the reigning world indoor champion and one of Amusan’s top challengers, finished second in 12.69s, while Italy’s Elena Carraro came third with 12.86s to also advance.

Amusan, who set the world record of 12.12s in 2022, is on a mission to reclaim her title after losing it last year, keeping Nigeria’s medal hopes alive in Tokyo.

In the men’s 100m event, Nigeria’s Kanyinsola Ajayi and Israel Okon will compete in the semifinals later today as the country continues its pursuit of podium finishes at the championships.
