Former President Goodluck Jonathan met on Thursday night with David Mark, National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), shortly after Mark, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and other key ADC figures held the party’s first National Caucus meeting in Abuja.

While details of the meeting remain unclear, it is believed to be linked to political alignments ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Reports indicate that some members of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been urging Jonathan to return and contest against President Bola Tinubu in the next election.

Jonathan, who lost the 2015 election to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, has not announced his interest in the race, though he is constitutionally eligible to run for one more term.

Earlier this month, on September 11, former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi also visited Jonathan in Abuja, further fueling speculation about the former president’s 2027 plans.

Jonathan and Mark share a long-standing political relationship, with Mark serving as Senate President during Jonathan’s administration.
