President Bola Tinubu on Friday assured Nigerians that the nation’s economy is on the path to recovery, noting that the people’s resilience and sacrifices are beginning to yield positive results.

Tinubu made the remarks during the coronation and presentation of Staff and Instruments of Office to the new Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, at Mapo Hall, Ibadan. He compared the nation’s economic reforms to a “painful surgery” but emphasized that a period of growth and prosperity lies ahead.
“Your suffering and perseverance have yielded growth and prosperity. The economy has turned the corner. It is a painful surgery. The moment of prosperity and growth awaits us,” he said.

Oba Ladoja, a former senator and ex-governor of Oyo State, was formally installed by Governor Seyi Makinde in line with state laws.

The ceremony attracted numerous dignitaries, including Governors Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Abiodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Prof. Soji Adejumo, Chief Niyi Akintola, Hon. Aderemi Oseni, and members of the Oyo State Executive Council. Traditional rulers such as the Sultan of Sokoto, Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso, and Owa Obokun of Ijesa land were also in attendance, alongside Christian and Muslim leaders.

Tinubu described Oba Ladoja as a patriot, accomplished businessman, and reliable ally, praising his resilience through past political challenges. He also acknowledged the presence of other notable figures, including former governors Donald Duke, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

In his acceptance speech, Oba Ladoja thanked the president, Governor Makinde, and other dignitaries for honoring him. He pledged to serve all residents of Ibadan, irrespective of their background, and promised to create opportunities for employment for the city’s youth.
“I am not a king for Ibadan alone but for all who reside in the city or have passed through it,” he said.

Oba Ladoja further requested the creation of Ibadan State from the current Oyo State.

Goodwill messages were delivered by Chief Sulaiman Ajewole, Chief Bayo Oyero, and Chief Bola Kareem, who described his ascension to the throne as historic and prayed for a peaceful reign.

Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal described President Tinubu’s presence at the event as a homecoming and congratulated the new Olubadan on his installation.
