The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume operations on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The corporation said the resumption follows the completion of comprehensive safety, technical, and operational checks after the service was suspended due to the August 26 derailment.
In a statement issued on Saturday, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, reiterated the corporation’s commitment to providing safe, secure, and reliable train services for Nigerians.
“The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is pleased to announce the resumption of passenger train services on the Abuja–Kaduna corridor, effective Wednesday, 1st October 2025,” the statement read in part.
The announcement comes days after the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau released its preliminary report on the incident, blaming infrastructure neglect as a major cause of the derailment. The Bureau also disclosed that 21 passengers were injured, contradicting NRC’s earlier figure of 20.
