Actress Bimbo Akintola has openly backed polygamy, describing it as both culturally rooted and potentially beneficial in today’s society.
In a recent chat with Biola Bayo, she suggested that polygamy could address the shortage of men, noting that many Yoruba families traditionally practiced it. According to her, the system could still function in modern times, with two women sharing one husband.
Akintola recalled cases where women embraced the arrangement for personal reasons. She shared the story of a woman who introduced a second wife to her marriage to balance her husband’s higher libido, saying it ultimately gave the first wife peace of mind.
“With the way the world is going, people should embrace polygamy. If statistics show there aren’t enough men, doesn’t that mean two women to one man? It is part of our tradition. Growing up, most Yoruba households had two or three wives. There are disadvantages, but some people believe there are advantages too,” she said.
