Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a move that signals a major political shift ahead of the 2027 elections.

The announcement was made on Tuesday at the Enugu State Government House, with top APC leaders from both the national and state levels in attendance. Mbah was immediately handed his APC membership card, and the event was set to the tune of the popular song “On Your Mandate.”

Governor Mbah said his defection was motivated by the need to align Enugu State with the federal government and enhance the state’s development potential. He described leaving the PDP as a difficult but necessary decision, urging the people of Enugu to continue supporting his leadership.

“For nearly three decades, PDP and the people of Enugu have walked side by side. Yet leadership sometimes requires principled and tough choices,” he said.

“There comes a time when everyone must make a bold decision to shape their destiny. We have chosen to leave the PDP and join the APC. I see in President Tinubu not just the nation’s leader, but a partner in purpose. Together, we believe that transformation must be bold and disruptive. We need allies who can match our ambition. This is not a detour, but a deliberate step toward a stronger future,” Mbah added.
