Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have intercepted multiple consignments of illicit drugs concealed in frozen snails, electrical bulbs, and female clothing destined for the United States, the United Kingdom, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

The seizures, made at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) and a courier company in Lagos, led to the arrest of two suspects.

One of the suspects, identified as cargo agent Boladale Riliwan, was apprehended on October 7, 2025, after NDLEA officers discovered 15 parcels of skunk hidden inside 10 giant rechargeable electrical bulbs he had packaged for airfreight to the DRC.

Another suspect, 48-year-old Olawale Oyebola Hakeemot, a UK-based Public Health Assistant, was arrested on October 12 at Terminal 2 of the Lagos airport. She was allegedly caught attempting to smuggle 2,300 pills of Tramadol (225mg) concealed inside frozen snails while en route to Manchester, United Kingdom, aboard a Qatar Airways flight.

In a separate operation on October 16, NDLEA officers intercepted a shipment of 810 pills of bromazepam hidden in female clothes and bound for the United States at a courier company in Lagos.

The agency confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace other members of the drug trafficking networks.
