President Bola Tinubu has ordered an emergency intervention over the poor state of training institutions for the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other internal security agencies.
Enugu Governor Peter Mbah, chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC) ad-hoc Committee on security training reforms, revealed this during an inspection of facilities in Lagos. He was joined by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, former Inspector General of Police Alkali Usman Baba, and AIG Olatunji Disu.
The committee has been given 30 days to submit a detailed report to NEC for immediate action. Mbah said President Tinubu was alarmed by the outdated infrastructure, emphasizing that it undermines the ability of security personnel to uphold human dignity.
Tinubu reportedly stressed that modernizing these institutions is crucial to achieving his goal of growing Nigeria’s economy to a trillion dollars in the next five years.
A full report and next steps are expected soon.
