Nollywood actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod has raised alarm online after sharing a video of veteran musician Innocent Onyebuchi, popularly known as Daddy Fresh, receiving treatment in a hospital due to a prolonged illness.

Afod posted the video on his Facebook page on Wednesday, showing the music icon lying on a hospital bed. Captioning the post, Afod wrote: “Daddy Fresh must not die – one of Nigeria’s finest artists is in a terrible condition.”

In the clip, Daddy Fresh, dressed in a blue sleeveless top, initially struggled to recognize Afod. “Oba,” he said faintly. Afod responded, “It’s Afod, Kunle Afod.” Surprised, Daddy Fresh expressed relief and disbelief at seeing him, describing it as a hopeful moment amid his struggles.

The musician revealed that he has been bedridden for over two and a half years and that the illness has drained his finances. He described suffering hallucinations and battling multiple health issues, including kidney and liver complications, neuropathy, and vision problems.

“My blood is extremely low, just 25%, and I urgently need two or three packs of blood,” Daddy Fresh said. “If I try to stand, I will fall unless someone supports me. Look at my face, my knees, my wounds from falling like a child learning to walk.”

He also disclosed facing eviction from his apartment due to unpaid rent, despite his efforts to raise money while bedridden.

Despite the challenges, Daddy Fresh expressed hope that Afod’s unexpected visit signaled positivity.

After giving him some financial assistance, Afod appealed to the public and Nigeria’s entertainment industry for support.

“This is Daddy Fresh. If you know him, you understand his impact. He has been seriously ill for over three years. I went to see him in the hospital and met him in a very bad state. Nigerians, entertainers, we need your help—financially and morally. Let’s keep this legend alive,” Afod said.

He called on the nation and the music community to rally behind Daddy Fresh, emphasizing the importance of supporting one of Nigeria’s iconic artists during his time of need.
