The 10th Assembly of the Agege Legislative Council, led by Hon. Adeshina Haruna, has accepted the resignation of Hon. Tunde Azeez, popularly known as Disco, from his position as Chairman of Agege Local Government.
Azeez stepped down due to health challenges that, according to him, have made it difficult to discharge his duties effectively. His resignation, tendered during the council’s plenary session on Tuesday, marked the beginning of a leadership transition within the local government.
In appreciation of his service, councillors praised Azeez’s contributions and wished him a quick recovery.
Following deliberations, the council unanimously appointed Hon. AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa as the substantive Chairman of Agege Local Government. Lawmakers described the move as vital to maintaining stability, ensuring continuity, and sustaining good governance within the council.
During the session, the Assembly also reviewed its committee structures and oversight responsibilities, focusing on strengthening transparency, accountability, and project monitoring across the local government.
Reaffirming its dedication to community development, the Assembly promised to continue driving initiatives that prioritize the welfare of Agege residents under its renewed leadership.
Reacting to the development, APC chieftain Rotimi Sulaiman commended Azeez’s decision, calling it an act of wisdom and selflessness.
“Hon. Tunde Azeez has been battling illness for some time, and stepping down to focus on his health rather than letting the pressures of office weigh him down is the right decision,” he stated.
Sulaiman also expressed confidence in the new chairman, adding, “AbdulGaniyu Vinod Obasa has shown strong leadership during Azeez’s absence. He is a capable and visionary young man. Agege is fortunate to have both men serving its people.”
