Barau FC player Nana Abraham has addressed the incident at Katsina United’s stadium, clarifying that he was injured by objects thrown from the stands and not as the result of a throat attack, as earlier reports claimed.

In a video statement, Abraham explained,
“It was during the course of the match, when we equalized our goal, the fans of Katsina United started throwing objects towards our bench. One of them hit my chest and lower shin, and that’s when I saw blood. That’s what happened, not a slitted throat.”

The incident took place shortly after Barau FC scored an equalizer in their Nigeria Premier Football League match. While initial reports suggested a more severe assault, Abraham’s account contradicts these claims.

Katsina United officials have also denied that any supporter entered the pitch or physically attacked Abraham, describing the earlier reports as “misleading.” The episode has renewed concerns over stadium security and fan behavior in the NPFL, prompting expectations that league authorities will review the incident and take measures to ensure player safety.

Abraham’s statement emphasizes the need to verify reports before drawing conclusions and highlights the ongoing importance of robust security measures at league fixtures.
