Akon was arrested in Georgia after police discovered an outstanding warrant linked to a suspended driver’s license, according to legal documents obtained by TMZ.
The incident dates back to September, when the singer’s Tesla Cybertruck reportedly broke down in the middle of a Georgia road. Responding officers said Akon explained that the vehicle’s battery had died. While assisting him, one officer ran his information and found that his license had been suspended due to a missed court appearance from January 2023.
Akon was issued a citation for driving with a suspended license and released at the time. The police report also mentioned that an “illegal vape” found in the car’s center console was confiscated and destroyed.
On Thursday, the “Locked Up” star was taken into custody by the Chamblee Police Department on the outstanding warrant and booked into the DeKalb County Jail. He was released approximately six hours later.
Officials have not yet disclosed details regarding the warrant’s origin.
