Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has urged the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to postpone its National Convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State, warning that holding it amid ongoing legal disputes could worsen the party’s crisis.

In a statement personally signed after a meeting with members of the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Reconciliation Team, led by Hassan Adamu, Saraki recommended that the party set up a Caretaker Committee to temporarily manage its affairs and restore stability.

He expressed disappointment that, despite the dedicated efforts of many party members, the convention had become embroiled in political and legal controversies.

The former Kwara State governor also highlighted the broader implications for Nigeria’s democracy, cautioning that the situation poses a significant threat beyond the party itself.

“It is clear that going ahead with the National Convention in Ibadan on November 15–16, 2025, will only serve to further fuel the present crisis. Therefore, going ahead with the Convention as scheduled is a waste of efforts. It does not have my support,” Saraki stated.

He noted that conflicting court orders have created uncertainty about the convention’s legitimacy, emphasizing that no one can guarantee the exercise or its outcomes would be legally upheld.
