Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has confirmed plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and formally join the All Progressives Congress on Wednesday, November 19. He disclosed the move during a chat with journalists on Saturday, describing it as a decision tied to the state’s future.

Kefas said the shift is part of a bigger political realignment he believes Taraba must embrace. He noted that the event will draw a large turnout and described the upcoming switch as a defining moment for the state. “There is going to be a major shift and alignment on November 19,” he said. “I will officially transition from PDP to APC. It is a movement that has to do with the destiny of Taraba people.”

His upcoming defection adds him to the growing list of PDP governors who have crossed over to the APC in 2025, joining Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, Peter Mbah of Enugu, and Douye Diri of Bayelsa.

Kefas came into office in 2023 with 257,926 votes, defeating Muhammad Yahaya of the NNPP and Emmanuel Bwacha of the APC. His switch marks a dramatic political moment for Taraba, a state that has been governed exclusively by the PDP since 1999.
