A tragic incident unfolded in Oba Ile community, Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Thursday when a 19-year-old mentally unstable man killed a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer during an attempt to restrain him.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect’s mother had called in the officers to help chain her son due to his erratic behavior, not expecting any violence. According to one source, “When the boy started misbehaving this morning, his mother invited two civil defence officers to help restrain him. During the process, he overpowered one of the officers, seized his knife, and stabbed him.”
The eyewitness noted that although the officer was armed, he tragically lost his life in the struggle.
Daniel Aidamenbor, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, confirmed the incident, describing it as unfortunate. He explained that the officer was attempting to take the young man to a facility where he could receive proper treatment when the fatal confrontation occurred.
