The Abia State Government has reportedly sealed the Umuahia office of Renewed Hope Partners (RHP), the campaign group backing President Bola Tinubu in the South East.
RHP, which is promoted in the region by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, had its office on Ojike Street, Umuahia, shut down without prior notice, according to an official who requested anonymity.
A notice posted by the Ministry of Lands and Housing stated that the property violated the state’s tax regulations. The notice read:
“Ministry of Lands and Housing. This property is in contravention of Sections 41 and 100 of the Abia State Tax Law (Codification and Consolidation), Law No. 7 of 2020. It is hereby sealed. Any person, including the owner/occupier, neighbours, or passersby, who attempts to unseal this building is in contravention of the Abia State Tax Law No.7 of 2020. Be warned. Keep off.”
Attempts to reach the contact numbers listed on the notice for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting.
