Fresh friction has erupted between the family of the late singer Mohbad and his widow, Wunmi, after Mohbad’s father released a new message disputing claims that the couple were ever traditionally married.
In the recording, he stressed that the only event he attended was an introduction ceremony and not a wedding. He questioned the legitimacy of the union, insisting there is no record of any bride price being paid or any traditional rites being carried out in his presence or with his approval.
He stated: “When my son was alive and Cynthia claimed to be pregnant, I felt it was necessary to meet her family properly. When we got there, I saw many members of her family sitting down. We completed the introduction, and that was when I met my son’s father-in-law for the first time. But I was surprised to hear later that a traditional wedding took place without the knowledge or presence of the family head. Who collected the bride price?”
According to him, Mohbad himself later suspended all wedding plans after accusing Wunmi of being unfaithful.
“He said he caught her with another man, told Myson, his elder sibling, his mother, and eventually told me. That was why he cancelled the marriage plans.”
He added that these unresolved issues are part of the reason he is renewing his demand for a DNA test for Mohbad’s son: “And that is one of the reasons why I’m asking for DNA.”
