Professor Abdulgafar Siyan Oyeweso, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has died at the age of 64.

His passing was announced by his younger brother, Olawale Oyeweso, on behalf of the family, revealing that he died on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, after a brief illness.

Reacting to the news, Olalekan Badmus, Special Assistant to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Digital Media, described the loss as both shocking and deeply painful for the academic and political circles in Osun State. On his verified X handle, he wrote: “Rest in power, Prof. Siyan Oyeweso. An illustrious son of Ede, Osun State, and Nigeria. What a sad loss!”

A distinguished Professor of History, educator, and mentor, Prof. Oyeweso was celebrated for his significant contributions to education and his active involvement in state politics, particularly within the All Progressives Congress (APC). His influence and work earned him respect across Osun State, Nigeria, and internationally.

He is survived by his wife, children, and other family members. His burial will take place today at 4:00 PM in his hometown of Ede, following solat Ashri.
