Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has firmly stated that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, despite the recent defection of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and 15 other lawmakers to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Speaking after inspecting road projects in Abuja, Wike said the defections reflect the deepening divisions within the PDP but made it clear that he has no plans to leave the party.
“I am still in the PDP. Out of 27 members, 16 or 17 have left, but about 10 of us remain, and we will continue to work together,” he said, underlining his commitment to the party.
Wike urged PDP leadership to act quickly to resolve the internal crisis that has led to members leaving.
“If you don’t put your house in order, it is the party that suffers. Those who left are free to go, but those of us who remain will continue to work together,” he added.
Addressing viral claims that he had been arrested in France, Wike dismissed the reports as politically motivated falsehoods.
“Previously, they said I was sick and flown abroad. Now, they claim I was arrested in France. I am focused on my duties, and such distractions will not deter me,” he said.
He emphasized that his priority is delivering results and maintaining the trust of President Bola Tinubu.
“As long as the President is satisfied with my work, I will continue to focus on performance. Critics will say all sorts of things, but it will not affect my loyalty to the PDP,” Wike noted.
He added that consistent performance and dedication to the party will eventually silence detractors.
“Over time, people will ignore false claims. Critics will always play politics, but I remain focused on my work and committed to the PDP,” he concluded.
