A Lagos community leader, Balogun Eko, has publicly challenged Fuji star K1 De Ultimate’s ambition to become the Awujale of Ijebuland, insisting the singer lacks the required royal lineage and roots in the region.
Balogun Eko highlighted that K1’s parents lived outside Ijebuland, making him ineligible to claim the throne, despite K1 citing ties to the Fusengbuwa ruling house.
He further demanded that K1 substantiate his Ijebu heritage by either pointing out his father’s burial site in Ijebuland or presenting at least six relatives from Ijebu-Ode or elsewhere in the region.
Alleging that K1 attempted to involve President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his bid, Balogun Eko claimed the president rejected the request, which fueled tensions during the ValueJet controversy.
Speaking on the matter, Balogun Eko said: “Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde, you are already the king of Fuji, so don’t be selfish. You cannot become Awujale. President Tinubu has told you to let it go – you can’t be king of Ijebuland. That’s why you got upset at the airport, trying to stop the plane because you didn’t like his response. People of Ijebu are afraid of you; they don’t know how to tell you they don’t want you as king.
“Of the four lineages entitled to the throne, you are not related to any. My uncle, who knew you as a child, said that whenever your parents had issues, your mother would come to his place before the situation worsened. Your parents reconciled after your father followed your mother to Ilepeju Ekiti, where he later passed away and was buried.
“The people of Ijebu are clear: either point to your father’s burial site in Ijebuland or bring at least six relatives from Ijebu-Ode or elsewhere in Ijebuland. Do not cause trouble – peace exists elsewhere, but that’s where you seem to want to stir conflict.”
