Ayra Starr has shared the difficulties she’s been facing since relocating from Lagos to New York.
In a candid Substack post, the singer revealed that she has been grappling with loneliness and the biting winter, describing her apartment as “almost-empty” and the city as “a walk-in freezer.”
She admitted to feeling moments of regret, particularly missing out on Detty December back home in Nigeria. Starr also reflected on her emotional state, calling it her “nobody gets me era,” where she no longer feels pressured to prove herself to anyone.
She wrote: “It’s so cold it feels like the city is actively trying to unalive my motivation. It’s the kind of cold that makes you realize happiness was just a summer hallucination, and I can’t stop the tiny voice at the back of my mind sarcastically saying, ‘Who sent you work?’”
Her post offered fans an honest glimpse into the personal and emotional challenges of adapting to life far from home.
