Armed bandits attacked the First ECWA Church in Ayetoro Kiri, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State early Sunday, December 14, 2025, killing one person and abducting several worshippers.
The victim, identified only as Jayjay, died during the assault. The exact number of people taken remains unclear as authorities and security personnel continue to investigate the incident.
This attack follows a string of violent incidents in Okun land. On November 30, 2025, armed men raided a Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area, abducting the cleric Orlando and worshippers. The attackers initially demanded a ₦500 million ransom, later reducing it to ₦200 million, and gave families a two-day deadline, threatening unspecified consequences if the ransom was not paid.
Residents also recalled that Ayetoro Kiri was targeted about three weeks ago when armed men attempted to raid a local school. The community vigilante group reportedly repelled the attackers, preventing casualties and abductions.
The latest attack has renewed fears over the deteriorating security situation in Okun land, with locals calling on the Kogi State Government and security agencies to take urgent action to safeguard lives and prevent further incidents.
