The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced a brief suspension of activities at its diplomatic offices in Abuja and Lagos in celebration of the Christmas holidays.
According to a notice issued on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, the U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will halt operations from Wednesday, December 24, until Friday, December 26, 2025.
“The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Wednesday, December 24 through Friday, December 26, 2025. We will resume normal work operations on Monday, December 29, 2025.”
The closure means routine consular services, including visa processing and other administrative matters, will not be available during the period. Emergency assistance for U.S. citizens will, however, continue as required.
Normal services are expected to resume on Monday, December 29, 2025. The temporary shutdown follows standard practice across U.S. diplomatic missions worldwide, which often observe major national and religious holidays by suspending non-essential operations. Members of the public have been advised to plan accordingly ahead of the reopening.
