Nigerian-American rapper Wale has reflected on his long-standing relationship with Wizkid, revealing that he played a key role in exposing the Afrobeats star to the global scene.
Wale said he has always paid close attention to Nigerian music and enjoys listening to several artists from the country, even those he does not personally know. However, his bond with Wizkid runs deeper, noting that they have been close for nearly a decade.
He recalled taking Wizkid to his first BET Awards appearance and also hosting him at his Beverly Hills home for an entire summer. According to Wale, that period was dedicated to making music, which led to the creation of several songs together.
Speaking on their friendship, Wale said, “I have been following Nigerian music, there are so many Nigerian artists that I like listening to. I don’t know some of them but I like listening to their music. There are some I know personally like Wizkid. Me and Wizkid have been cool for almost 10 years now. I remember taking him to his first BET Awards show. That is my boy. I once accommodated him at Beverly Hills for a whole summer. We were just writing music. We made a lot of songs together like ‘Drop for me’.”
