Large areas of Nigeria experienced power outages on Monday after the national electricity grid collapsed.

The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirmed the collapse on X, stating that electricity supply had fallen to just 50 megawatts as technicians worked to restore the system.

According to NISO, which manages the distribution of power to electricity companies, only Abuja and Ibadan were receiving 50 megawatts each at the time, down drastically from the 3,660 megawatts supplied on Sunday, December 28, 2025.
