Mrs T. A. Olorisha’s home in the Isale Koko area of Ilorin was destroyed in a suspected arson attack, prompting an investigation by the Kwara State Police Command. She alleged that the attack may be connected to threats she had received over her religious beliefs.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the incident occurred on January 1, 2026, at around 7:00 p.m. while Mrs Olorisha was away. No one was inside the house at the time, and no lives were lost. The extent of the property damage is still being assessed.
Ejire-Adeyemi stated that the fire was reported to the C Division Police Station, Oja Oba, Ilorin, at about 10:00 p.m. on January 2.
“The complainant, Mrs T. A. Olorisha, alleged that her house was set ablaze by unknown persons while she was away,” she said. “She also alleged that she had received threats in November 2025 from some individuals over religious differences, as she is a traditional worshipper.”
The police said Mrs Olorisha provided useful information that led to the detention of three suspects, who are currently assisting with the ongoing investigation. Efforts are also ongoing to apprehend other potential perpetrators.
Ejire-Adeyemi assured the public that the police are committed to protecting lives, property, and the rights of all residents regardless of religious or cultural affiliation. She urged members of the public to remain calm and provide any information that could help the investigation.
