Elon Musk’s X may face a ban in the UK amid serious concerns over illegal AI-generated images appearing on the platform.
The issue involves X’s AI tool, Grok, which has reportedly been used to create sexualised images of women and children, including images showing them undressed.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer said he has asked media regulator Ofcom to keep “all options on the table” after it was revealed that Grok had been used to produce child sexual abuse material. Users on the platform continue to generate thousands of such images, including sexualised and bikini-clad depictions of women and children.
The Telegraph reports that a UK internet watchdog discovered Grok-generated images being shared on a dark web forum, which would qualify as illegal child sexual abuse material.
Starmer described the situation as “disgraceful” and “disgusting,” adding, “It’s not to be tolerated… Ofcom has our full support to take action in relation to this.”
He also warned, “It’s unlawful. We’re not going to tolerate it. I’ve asked for all options to be on the table,” in an interview with Greatest Hits Radio.
Under the Online Safety Act, Ofcom has the authority to seek a High Court order to effectively block companies that host illegal content on their platforms.
