BUA Group Chairman Abdulsamad Rabiu has confirmed he will honour his $500,000 pledge to the Super Eagles, despite the team falling short of winning the Africa Cup of Nations.

Announcing this on Instagram on Thursday, Rabiu commended the Nigerian squad for their resilience, determination and fighting spirit throughout the tournament. He said their effort on the field deserved recognition, even if the ultimate prize eluded them.

“You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch. Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud,” he wrote.

Rabiu added that results do not always reflect effort, emphasising that the team’s passion, unity and dedication were what truly mattered. “Sometimes, even our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we hope for, but the spirit, passion and unity you displayed are what truly matter. You left everything on the field, and that is worthy of celebration,” he said.

The chairman also confirmed that the $500,000 reward promised before the tournament would still be paid, calling it a recognition of the Super Eagles’ hard work, discipline and the joy they brought Nigerians during the competition.

Nigeria’s campaign ended in the semi-finals after a tense 0–0 draw against host nation Morocco, which saw the Super Eagles lose 4–2 in a penalty shootout at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.

Rabiu encouraged the team to remain optimistic, noting that the lessons and experience gained from the tournament would fuel future success.
