Sheikh Bashir Soliu, the Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate in Kwara State, has passed away, leaving the Emirate and the wider Muslim community in mourning.

SaharaReporters confirmed that the revered Islamic scholar and spiritual leader died on Monday, though the circumstances of his death have not been disclosed.

Born in Ilorin, Sheikh Soliu spent decades dedicated to Islamic scholarship, teaching, and religious leadership, becoming one of the most respected figures in the state. He served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, a role he held for more than 40 years following his appointment in 1983.

During his long tenure, the late Chief Imam was widely admired for his profound knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence, strong leadership in religious matters, and unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and tolerance within the Muslim community and the wider society.

Often referred to as Imam Fulani, Sheikh Soliu was appointed by the former Emir of Ilorin, Zuluqarnain Muhammadu Gambari, succeeding Imam Musa Ahmad. His father, Imam Saliu Omo Onida Abdulkadir, had also served as the 7th Chief Imam of Ilorin Emirate, continuing a family legacy of religious leadership.

Sheikh Soliu’s death marks the end of a remarkable era in the Ilorin Emirate, leaving a lasting legacy in Islamic scholarship and spiritual guidance.
