Instagram influencer Egungun of Lagos has reacted after facing criticism for his awkward interview with US streamer IShowSpeed.

IShowSpeed, who is on his 2026 African tour, arrived in Lagos on January 21 and has been meeting several celebrities before moving on to another African country.

A clip that went viral online showed Egungun struggling to keep his composure while interviewing the 21-year-old streamer. At one point, he asked, “Speed, how old are you?” IShowSpeed replied, “I’m 21.” Egungun then commented, “Jesus Christ, and you look so healthy and strong,” before awkwardly adding, “When did you start this, woo woo, woo woo?” IShowSpeed looked confused and responded, “You say what?”

Many Nigerians criticized Egungun for his inability to hold a smooth conversation, noting that IShowSpeed appeared bored during the interview. Blogger Tunde Ednut shared the clip, highlighting the moment a fan rebuked Egungun for his performance.

Responding to the backlash, Egungun explained that the tension of the situation and a thorough security check before meeting IShowSpeed contributed to his awkwardness. He pleaded with fans to understand his hustle, writing:

“Abeg make Ona no vex for me 🤣🤣🤣🤣 na tension even before the interview securities wan kill me 🤣 please take it easy on me na hustle I Dey, don’t judge me 🙏🤣.”
