The incident, which occurred during a crowd crush at the venue, claimed the life of Karen Lojore, leaving fans and the music community in shock.

Taking to Instagram, Asake said:

“I am devastated by the tragic incident that took place at the festival on Dec 20th in Nairobi. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and loved ones of Karen Lojore, and I pledge to support and do my best to understand what happened. Those responsible should be held accountable. Music has always been my way of sharing love and joy, and it breaks my heart that anyone had to experience such loss. My thoughts are with everyone grieving, and I pray that Karen rests in peace. God Bless Kenya.”

The singer’s statement underlines his grief and his commitment to seeking clarity about the events that led to the tragedy.
Anthony Joshua ended his bout with Jake Paul emphatically, stopping the YouTuber-turned-boxer in the sixth round after a largely lopsided contest that many fans and analysts labelled embarrassing.

Paul opened the fight cautiously, circling the ring and avoiding sustained exchanges, while Joshua struggled early to land anything meaningful. The Nigerian-born former heavyweight champion appeared patient as Paul mixed movement with occasional taunts, but the action offered little excitement for much of the opening rounds.

The bout finally shifted in the fifth when Joshua unleashed a burst of aggression, dropping Paul twice and exposing the gulf in power and experience. A round later, Joshua closed the show with a decisive finish.

Earlier, the fourth round descended into farce as Paul repeatedly went to the canvas without being clearly hurt, prompting referee Christopher Young to step in and warn both fighters that “the fans didn’t pay to see this crap”.

Despite the criticism surrounding the spectacle, the fight proved lucrative, with Joshua and Paul each reportedly earning around $70 million.

“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua told Netflix.

“We have to give Jake his respect for trying and trying and trying, but he came up against a real fighter tonight that’s had a 15-month layoff, who shook off the cobwebs.”

After the victory, Joshua turned his attention to the future, calling out Tyson Fury and fueling talk of a long-awaited all-British showdown that could take place in 2026.

Nigeria’s hopes of returning to the World Cup stage have been dashed after a painful defeat to the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the African playoff final, ending their bid for a place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles, coached by Eric Chelle, fell short in Rabat, Morocco, where the decisive match ended in a penalty shootout that swung in favour of DR Congo. The loss marks another major setback for Nigeria, who also failed to qualify for the 2022 tournament.

With the defeat, Nigeria are officially out of contention for the 2026 World Cup, making it the second consecutive edition they will miss. This is despite appearing in six of the previous seven tournaments—a run that had cemented their reputation as one of Africa’s World Cup regulars.

DR Congo’s victory, however, propels them into the inter-confederation playoffs, where six teams will battle for the final two slots at the expanded 2026 World Cup. Their dramatic campaign continues as they push for what would be their first World Cup appearance since 1974, when they participated under the name Zaire during the tournament in West Germany.

Lt. A.M. Yarima, a young Nigerian Navy officer who recently had a confrontation with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, reportedly escaped an assassination attempt on Sunday evening.

According to military sources, Yarima was being followed by unidentified men dressed in black in two unmarked Hilux vans with no number plates. The vehicles allegedly trailed him from the NIPCO Filling Station off the Line Expressway to Gado Nasco Way.

The sources said Yarima noticed the surveillance and carried out a “strategic maneuver,” successfully evading the suspected assailants. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m., and authorities are investigating the matter with “the seriousness it deserves,” though further details have been withheld to avoid compromising the probe.

The attempted attack follows a tense confrontation between Yarima and Wike at a disputed land site in Gaduwa District, which was captured on video. The incident drew national attention and led the Presidency to halt the demolition exercise at the location.

Military veterans have condemned Wike’s verbal insult toward Yarima and opposed any disciplinary action against the officer. Abiodun Durowaiye-Herberts, spokesman for the Coalition of Retired Veterans, warned that ex-service members would “occupy the office and residence of the FCT Minister” if Yarima faced punishment.

Durowaiye-Herberts stressed that military personnel owe allegiance to Nigeria, not individual officials, and called on Wike to apologize for his remarks. “How can a public office holder call an officer ‘a fool’ on camera?” he asked, adding that such behavior undermines national institutions and demeans public office.

Meanwhile, Minister of Defence Mohammad Badaru Abubakar assured that no military personnel acting lawfully would face sanctions over the altercation. “We will always protect officers and our armed forces personnel on lawful duty,” Badaru said during a ministerial briefing for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebrations at the National Defence College. “Any officer on lawful duty will be protected if he is doing his job lawfully and doing it well.”

Veterans had previously vowed to mobilize and occupy the FCT Ministry if Yarima faced disciplinary action.

Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro, has debunked claims that actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, was released following an acquittal by the Court of Appeal.

Pedro described the reports as “false, misleading and irresponsible,” saying the misinformation began after actor Yomi Fabiyi posted that the appellate court had cleared Baba Ijesha of all charges, including sexual offences involving a minor. The claim was later amplified by an online platform.

“No such clearance occurred at any stage of the judicial process,” Pedro emphasized, noting that the statements misrepresented court records and could mislead the public.

He provided a summary of the case, stating that on July 14, 2022, the Lagos High Court convicted Baba Ijesha of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child over incidents that occurred in 2021, sentencing him to five and three years, to run concurrently.

“On June 28, 2024, the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, delivered judgment on his appeal. While the court set aside convictions relating to alleged offences from 2013–2014, it upheld the conviction and sentence for the 2021 sexual assault charges,” Pedro explained.

He added that Baba Ijesha’s appeal to the Supreme Court was struck out on May 29, 2025, and a motion to file a fresh appeal was dismissed on October 9, 2025, leaving the Appeal Court judgment intact.

Pedro clarified that Baba Ijesha’s release was simply due to the completion of his jail term. “Mr. Olanrewaju James was not cleared,” he said.

The Attorney-General warned Fabiyi and other platforms spreading the false claims to stop, adding that the state may pursue criminal action under Section 39 of the Lagos Criminal Law for publishing false news.
