Court Sets Bail For Malami And Son With Tough Terms
The Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday granted former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and his son Abdulaziz bail of N200 million each in a case linked to alleged terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that bail is meant to ensure defendants appear for trial and approved their separate applications.
The court ordered that each defendant must provide two sureties in the same amount.
One surety must own a developed property in Maitama or Asokoro in Abuja and submit the title deed to the Deputy Chief Registrar.
The sureties are also required to file affidavits of means and provide recent passport photographs, while the defendants must surrender their passports.
Despite the bail approval, the judge directed that both men remain at Kuje Correctional Centre until they meet all conditions.
The trial is set to begin on March 4. The Department of State Services had filed a five count charge against them, including terrorism financing and unlawful possession of firearms.
The prosecution alleges that while serving as AGF in November 2022, Malami failed to act on case files involving suspected terrorism financiers.
It also claims that in December 2025 he and his son were found with a Sturm Magnum firearm, live cartridges and spent rounds at their residence in Birnin Kebbi.
The charges are said to fall under the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act 2022 and the Firearms Act 2004.
