Dr Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, has given Kaduna-based businessman Kailani Mohammed seven days to retract statements he labelled as libellous, warning that failure to comply would result in a N100 billion lawsuit.
The notice was delivered through Dangote’s lawyer, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Dr Ogwu James Onoja of Onoja Law Firm, Abuja. In the letter, Dangote demanded a public explanation, full retraction, and an unreserved apology after Mohammed accused him of engaging in “unclean business” in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, during the 1980s.
Dated December 20, 2025, the letter stated that Mohammed’s claims had defamed Dangote, damaged his reputation, and cast doubt on the legitimacy of his wealth as Africa’s richest man.
The remarks reportedly came during an interview Mohammed gave on TrustTV news on December 17, 2025, in reaction to his petition against Dr Farouk Ahmed submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
Titled “Demand for public explanation, retraction and unreserved public apology on your libellous publication against Alhaji Aliko Dangote, GCON,” the letter was signed by Dr Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, and formally warns Mohammed of legal action if he does not comply within the seven-day timeframe.
