Delta State Mourns Former Deputy Governor
Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed grief over the death of former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who passed away at 85.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said the news came with shock and sadness, though he gave thanks for a life devoted to service in Delta and Nigeria.
He described the late statesman as a loyal patriot, seasoned administrator and committed party figure whose impact on the state would endure.
Elue served as deputy to former Governor James Ibori from 1999 to 2007, a time regarded as crucial in strengthening democratic rule during the early years of the Fourth Republic.
Oborevwori recalled that Elue was known for humility, discipline and steady support for the administration he worked with.
He said the former deputy governor’s calm approach and wise counsel helped sustain unity and stability across Delta State.
The governor noted that beyond politics, Elue built a legacy as an educator who guided younger generations.
He added that the octogenarian earned respect across party lines and remained devoted to peace and unity in the state, extending condolences to his family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District and the entire state.
