DSS Arrests Ex Lawmaker Over Intelligence Claims
Operatives of the Department of State Services have arrested former lawmaker Aliyu Gebi over allegations that he shared false intelligence reports with foreign embassies in Nigeria.
Gebi, who served in the 7th National Assembly, was picked up on April 3 and has since been granted bail.
He is, however, still under investigation and required to report regularly to security authorities.
Security sources said the reports allegedly circulated raised concerns among international partners and may have influenced travel and security decisions, including actions by foreign airlines and advisories issued by some governments.
The Nigerian government has pushed back on such reports, insisting that while security challenges exist, the situation is being addressed.
Authorities say investigations are ongoing and the former lawmaker may face charges in court.
