DSS Detains Officers Over Failed El-Rufai Arrest
The Department of State Services (DSS) has detained five police and immigration officers over their alleged roles in the failed attempt to arrest former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai at the Abuja airport on February 12.
Although the arrest was unsuccessful, his passport was seized during the incident.
According to reports, the arrests followed a joint investigation involving the DSS, Nigeria Immigration Service and other agencies.
The DSS alleged that the officers received bribes to grant unauthorised access to restricted airport areas and to obstruct a lawful security operation.
El-Rufai later honoured an invitation from the EFCC and was subsequently taken into custody by the ICPC, where he remains.
The DSS has also filed criminal charges against him and claimed he evaded arrest at the airport through bribery.
However, El-Rufai has denied all allegations, describing the actions against him as politically motivated.
The detained officers have reportedly been transferred for prosecution, while others may face internal disciplinary measures.
