DSS Schedules Court Date for El-Rufai
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is set to appear before a Federal High Court in Abuja next Wednesday over alleged cybercrime and national security offences.
The arraignment will be presided over by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik following assignment of the case by Chief Judge John Tsoho.
The Department of State Services (DSS) filed a three-count charge accusing El-Rufai of unlawfully intercepting telephone communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
Court documents also allege his involvement with individuals who carried out the interception and failure to report the acts to authorities.
A third count claims El-Rufai and others deployed technical systems that compromised public safety and national security, causing fear through the alleged interception of classified communications.
The charges fall under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act, 2024.
The case follows multiple federal investigations, including prior detention by the EFCC over corruption allegations and a late-night ICPC raid on his Abuja residence.
El-Rufai’s legal team criticised the search, claiming it violated due process and fundamental rights.
