Edo Government Dismisses Obi’s Shooting Claim
The Edo State Government has rejected claims that Peter Obi and leaders of the African Democratic Congress were attacked in Benin City, describing the allegation as false and malicious. The state authorities said the report misrepresented what truly happened during the political event.
Officials stated that security agencies were present throughout the programme and that no gunfire or violent incident was recorded. They maintained that the gathering proceeded without disruption and that public safety was not breached at any point.
The government said linking the state to an alleged attack was an attempt to stir tension and create fear ahead of the 2027 elections. It added that Edo remains committed to protecting all political actors, regardless of party affiliation.
Authorities urged the public to disregard what they called unfounded claims and rely on verified information from security agencies. They also warned against spreading reports capable of heating up the polity.
