Ejiofor Rejects $100,000 IPOB Payment Claims
Human rights lawyer Ifeanyi Ejiofor has rejected claims that he received ₦10 million for representing Nnamdi Kanu during his trial.
The lawyer insisted his legal services for the detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra were offered without charge.
The controversy began after reports circulated that IPOB released financial records indicating a ₦10 million payment connected to Ejiofor.
The group’s finance unit also stated that about $100,000 had been paid to a legal team, including senior lawyer Mike Ozekhome, for work related to Kanu’s case.
Ejiofor dismissed the claims and maintained that he never collected professional fees for defending the IPOB leader.
According to him, any funds released by Kanu were meant for other members of the legal team and their support staff.
He also said steps were already being taken to make public the identities of the lawyers who received the payments, along with proof of the transactions, in order to clear the confusion surrounding the issue.
