El Rufia Family Pushes Back On ICPC Home Search
The family of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El Rufai has rejected claims that wiretapping devices were found in his Abuja home.
On Monday, Mohammed El Rufai, the lawmaker for Kaduna North Federal Constituency, accused the ICPC of waging a “media war rather than adhere to the rule of law” and dismissed the allegations as false.
The dispute arose after affidavits were reportedly filed by the commission at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.
In response, the family said it viewed the claims “with a mixture of contempt and amusement,” insisting that no special surveillance tools were discovered.
It maintained that only “old discarded personal mobile phones… storage devices like flash drives and laptops” were taken from the house. This is not an act of non-cooperation; it is a fundamental human right.”
Meanwhile, the Federal High Court in Maitama declined to hear El Rufai’s bail request, describing it as premature, and adjourned the matter to 23 April 2026 for arraignment.
El Rufai was absent as he remained in ICPC custody, while some members of the African Democratic Congress attended the session.
He has also filed a ₦1 billion fundamental rights suit over the search, and his camp raised concerns about his treatment in detention.
