A 51-year-old man, Emeka Emmanuel Nwangwu, has been remanded by an Enugu State Magistrate Court over the alleged murder of his 19-year-old cousin, Loveth Uloma Nwangwu, in Nsukka Local Government Area.
Nwangwu, who is a member of a local neighbourhood security group, was arraigned on Wednesday after the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) completed investigations directed by the Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa.
State police spokesperson Daniel Ndukwe said the suspect was arrested on December 1, 2025, following an incident in which he reportedly assaulted the deceased, causing injuries that led to her death.
“The suspect was arrested after violently attacking the deceased, resulting in injuries that proved fatal,” Ndukwe said.
After the arrest, the Commissioner of Police ordered a detailed investigation, which led to Nwangwu being charged with a one-count murder. The court subsequently remanded him at the Enugu Correctional Centre and directed that the case file be sent to the Ministry of Justice via the Directorate of Public Prosecution for further legal review.
Giwa also offered condolences to the bereaved family, assuring them that the matter was being handled promptly.
“We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of the deceased. Justice is in motion, as the investigation has been completed and the suspect arraigned and remanded,” he said.
The case has intensified calls for greater accountability among local security outfits and improved protection for residents within communities.
