Nigerian activist and Executive Director of Enough is Enough Nigeria, Yemi Adamolekun, faced harassment from security operatives on Monday while laying flowers at the Lekki Toll Gate to honor victims of the 2020 EndSARS protest.

EiE Nigeria shared the incident on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “While peacefully laying a wreath in remembrance of the #LekkiMassacre, #_yemia was harassed by overzealous security agents. Even in honouring the dead, citizens are intimidated. She’s fine — but this abuse of power is not.”

Human rights activist Deji Adeyanju also condemned the harassment, writing on X, “I condemn the harassment of notable human rights activist Yemi Adamolekun of #EiENigeria by security agents who have no respect or regard for human rights in Nigeria.”

The #EndSARS movement, which began in October 2020, was a nationwide protest against police brutality, particularly by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS). The movement reached a tragic peak on October 20, 2020, when security forces reportedly opened fire on protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Monday’s incident comes amid ongoing efforts by activists and civil society groups to mark the protest’s anniversary, demand justice for the victims, and hold security forces accountable for their actions during the violence.
