Ex DSS Boss Begins Diplomatic Mission in US
Former Director-General of the Department of State Services, Kayode Are, has officially resumed duties as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States.
He began the diplomatic assignment after presenting his letter of credence to the US government and President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday.
The ceremony marked the formal recognition of Are as Nigeria’s representative in Washington.
His appointment forms part of the ambassadorial nominations submitted to the Senate by President Bola Tinubu in November 2025.
Are previously served as the head of the DSS before moving into diplomatic service.
His new role places him at the centre of Nigeria’s relations with the United States on security, trade and foreign policy matters.
The latest development comes as the Tinubu administration continues to fill key diplomatic positions abroad following months of ambassadorial reshuffling and Senate confirmations.
