Ex Minister Questions US Troop Role In Nigeria
Former minister Solomon Dalung has raised concerns over the presence of American troops in Nigeria, questioning their impact on the country’s fight against insurgency.
He spoke during an interview, where he expressed doubt about the effectiveness of foreign involvement.
Dalung argued that attacks by groups such as Boko Haram have become more intense despite the deployment of U.S. personnel.
He suggested that the presence of foreign forces may not be delivering the expected results in tackling insecurity.
He also questioned the use of surveillance tools like drones, saying there is little evidence they are helping to detect or prevent attacks on communities and military targets.
According to him, the lack of visible outcomes raises concerns about the role being played.
The remarks come as Nigeria deepens military cooperation with the United States Africa Command, which recently confirmed the deployment of a small team to support counterterrorism efforts in the country.
