FAAN Explains Delay In Cashless Airport Policy
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has clarified that President Bola Tinubu did not cancel the airport cashless payment policy but only directed that the system be improved before it is fully implemented.
FAAN made the clarification on Thursday, explaining that the president asked authorities to address operational concerns and ensure the system works smoothly for passengers before enforcement across Nigerian airports.
The agency said the move is aimed at preventing inconvenience for travellers while still pushing ahead with plans to modernise payment processes at airports.
According to FAAN, the cashless policy is designed to reduce cash handling, improve transparency, and make transactions easier within airport facilities.
However, the government wants the system refined so that passengers and service providers can adapt without disruption.
The authority added that work is ongoing to improve the payment platforms and infrastructure needed for the policy before it is rolled out nationwide.
