FCT Minister Applauds Tinubu’s Election Reform
In Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026 into law without delay.
He said the move shows the President’s resolve to strengthen Nigeria’s democratic process and improve the conduct of elections.
Wike’s remarks were contained in a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka.
He said the quick assent, coming shortly after the National Assembly passed the amended bill, had put an end to protests by groups he claimed were already preparing excuses for future election defeat.
According to him, democracy remains a system that keeps growing and improving over time.
He noted that regular reviews of the Electoral Act would help the country refine its electoral system and build stronger institutions.
The minister also congratulated the President and members of the National Assembly for what he described as their role in strengthening democracy.
He added that the President’s decision to sign the bill in less than 24 hours showed readiness to act in the interest of the nation.
