FG Fires Back At US Lawmakers
The Federal Government has rejected claims of religious persecution in Nigeria following a report submitted by United States lawmakers to President Donald Trump on Monday.
Officials in Abuja moved quickly to counter the narrative circulating abroad.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, addressed the issue while reacting to the document presented in the United States.
He maintained that the allegations do not accurately reflect the country’s reality.
He explained that Nigeria operates as a diverse nation where people freely practise their religion, and that ongoing security challenges are not driven by state-sponsored religious bias.
The government insists that criminal violence should not be misread as organised persecution.
The response comes amid renewed global attention on Nigeria’s internal affairs, with authorities keen to defend the nation’s image and clarify what they describe as misconceptions.
