FG Pushes To Revoke Ajudua Bail
The Federal Government has taken its fight against the bail granted to Lagos socialite Fred Ajudua to the Supreme Court.
The move follows a January 30, 2026 ruling by the Court of Appeal that freed him in an ongoing $1.043 million fraud case.
Ajudua, 65, is facing trial over alleged conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, forgery and use of forged documents under Lagos State law.
The case, which began in 2005, is linked to an advance-fee fraud dating back to the late 1990s and has suffered repeated delays.
The government, through lawyers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, filed a notice of appeal challenging the appellate court’s decision.
It argued that an earlier Supreme Court judgment had already revoked Ajudua’s bail and directed that he remain in custody for a speedy trial.
Officials insist that no lower court has the authority to revisit that decision.
Prosecutors also questioned the medical grounds relied upon in granting bail, stating that Ajudua’s kidney condition has been known for decades and had been raised several times in the past.
They urged the apex court to set aside the appeal court’s ruling and restore the trial court’s order denying bail.
