FG Urged To Expand Pipeline Surveillance System
A pan Niger Delta group has urged the Federal Government to decentralise pipeline surveillance operations across oil producing communities in the region.
The group said involving more local communities in protecting oil infrastructure would improve monitoring and help reduce pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft.
According to the group, decentralising surveillance operations will create greater accountability and ensure that host communities play a direct role in safeguarding national assets located within their areas.
They also argued that broader participation from communities would strengthen security around pipelines and contribute to more stable oil production.
The group called on the Federal Government to review the current surveillance framework and adopt a more inclusive system that accommodates stakeholders across the Niger Delta.
